Acer Aspire 7 is the first gaming laptop to bring AMD’s new Ryzen 5000 CPUs to India

AMD’s new range of Ryzen 5000 mobile CPUs is finally making its way to India thanks to Acer. The laptop manufacturer has just launched the Aspire 7 gaming laptop and is already selling it via its own online store as well as e-commerce platform Flipkart. The laptop is being offered in two configurations, although there is only one CPU option at the moment.

It seems like the Aspire 7 is a basic entry-level gaming laptop, as the specifications aren’t all that exciting. In fact, Acer’s own marketing material doesn’t mention anything about gaming on the new laptop, which comes with very simple-looking design aesthetics. So why is Acer pushing the ‘gaming’ moniker for Indian consumers? For starters, the company isn’t technically wrong, as it does have the power to handle most competitive esports titles and a few AAA-titles at low settings. With the new offering, Acer could capture a large chunk of gaming enthusiasts in India who are looking for an entry-level machine that is great for both work and a little bit of gaming. When it comes to specifications, the new laptop is powered by the AMD Ryzen 5500-U six-core processor, which is based on the 7nm ‘Zen 3’ architecture. It comes with 12-threads and a base clock speed of 2.1GHz going up to 4GHz. There is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU with 4GB GDDR6 memory onboard to handle graphics, up to 16GB of DDR4 system memory, and a 512GB PCIe Gen 3 SSD. The 15.6-inch Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080-pixels) IPS display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. There is Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with Bluetooth 5.1, while in the I/O department, you get an HDMI port, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, a USB 2.0 port, a combination headphone and mic jack, and an RJ-45 ethernet port. The laptop comes with a 48Whr battery which Acer claims can last up to 11.5-hours.

The Acer Aspire 7 is priced at ₹54,990 for the 8GB RAM variant, while the 16GB version is available for ₹58,990.

The GeForce RTX 3060 releases today at noon EST! Here’s where to order one

Today is the release date of a new NVIDIA graphics card–the GeForce RTX 3060! At noon EST (or 9 AM PST), the latest in the 30 series of NVIDIA cards will be released, and you can be sure it’ll be a mad rush to get one in your cart and check out. Don’t waste time searching for the item while stock is running out! Below are the retailers that will have the graphics card in stock.

Of course, if you’re going to try and grab one today, you need to make sure you’re prepared! Just one login screen or payment update can be the difference between getting one and missing out, so check out our tips to give you the highest chances of ordering the GeForce RTX 3060:

• Make sure you have an account at the store and all personal information is updated. Restocks put enormous strains on websites. On top of that, retailers will only allow you to hold it in your cart for a few minutes, if even that long, when it comes to items like this. Don’t waste your chance trying to update your address or payment information!
• Start refreshing the page early. Often, retailers won’t put stock up at EXACTLY the moment they say. It may be a few minutes early or late. Get to the store page of the item you want before the restock time. You might get lucky!
• Use Ctrl+F5, not just F5. This gives you a hard refresh that doesn’t pull store information from the cache. So, you won’t get outdated information and will be able to see the “Buy” button as soon as possible!
• It’s usually better to be on the computer rather than your phone. Xbox Series X and Series S Restocks: Stock live at Target for the X and S right now!

It’s time for a new gaming console generation, so you know what that means… time to hopelessly try to get a new console! Like most new generational launches, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is difficult to find, and many are left waiting for seconds-long Xbox Series X and S restocks. It’s a frustrating situation for sure, and while we can’t offer you a surefire way to get an Xbox Series X or Series S, we can help by gathering everything you need to know in one place. When and where will the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S be restocked?

While we believe the information below is accurate, it’s important to note that sometimes restocks don’t happen as planned. Restocks may go up late, websites may break, or retailers may just change their minds. This information is to help you plan for possible restocks.

Stock for the new Xbox series of systems seems to be doing a bit better than the PlayStation 5, but it’s still difficult to grab one. A Microsoft spokesperson even told CNET that stock will be limited until April 2021.

Right now (yes, right this second), Target has both the Xbox Series X and Series S in stock! Make sure to grab one before they sell out–they’ve been in stock for a few minutes now, but there’s no telling how long that’ll last.

Amazon and Best Buy have occasionally been dropping stock of the new consoles, but it’s often without warning. You can check the store page occasionally, but it’s often best that you follow Twitter accounts or bots that provide minute-to-minute updates on the Xbox Series consoles for grabbing one on.

If you really need an Xbox Series X or S before Christmas, you can pick one up for an inflated price at StockX. Xbox prices seem to be less inflated than the PlayStation 5, at least! Also, StockX is a bit safer at the moment for buying a reseller console. eBay is unfortunately full of misleading listings and flat out scams. If you’re going this route, stick with StockX!

General advice for restocks

Trying to get your hands on something with limited stock is really, really stressful. Make sure to give yourself the best chance you can by following the advice below!

• Make sure you have an account at the store, and all personal information is updated. Restocks of popular items like the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S put huge strains on websites. On top of that, when it comes to items like these, retailers will only allow you to hold it in your cart for a few minutes. The new Redmi K40 devices come with an updated design, which is a far cry from the Redmi K30 lineup from last year. Instead of a center-aligned camera island, the new devices feature a left-aligned rectangular camera island that resembles the one found on the Xiaomi Mi 11. They feature new back panel finishes, and the Redmi branding has also been moved to a new position closer to the left edge. Things aren’t all that different over on the front, except for the new centered hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

The vast majority of the changes on the Redmi K40 series can be found on the inside. The new devices come with updated SoCs, with the Redmi K40 packing Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 870 chip and the Redmi K40 Pro/Redmi K40 Pro+ featuring the flagship Snapdragon 888 chip. The SoCs are paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on the non-pro variant, with the Pro and Pro+ variants also getting up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.

The Redmi K40 features a 6.67-inch FHD+AMOLED display with a peak refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. It has a single hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera and minimal bezels on all sides. The Redmi K40 Pro and the Redmi K40 Pro+ also feature the same display. All three devices feature a substantially large 4,520mAh battery. All three devices also feature a proper stereo-speaker setup, with a speaker each on the top and bottom edge. This isn’t to be confused with the pseudo-stereo speaker setup that we’ve seen on some devices in the past, which uses the earpiece as a secondary speaker.

The Redmi K40 series has received some major improvements on the camera front. The Redmi K40 Pro now features a triple-camera setup with a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary camera, and a 5MP tele-macro sensor. The non-pro variant features a triple-camera setup with a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary camera, and a 5MP tele-macro camera. The Redmi K40 Pro+ features the most impressive camera setup, with a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP secondary camera, and a 5MP tele-macro camera. On the software front, all three devices run MIUI 12 based on Android 11.

The new Redmi K40 series is priced as follows:

Xiaomi also hasn’t released any information regarding an international launch. But, as per recent reports, the Redmi K40 may launch as a POCO device in some markets outside China.

Micromax IN Note 1 and IN 1B bootloader unlock guide and kernel source code are now available

Indian smartphone OEM Micromax attempted a comeback last year with the launch of two budget-friendly devices — the Micromax IN Note 1 and IN 1B. What’s more interesting is that the company seemingly wants to make the IN series at least a partial spiritual successor to the YU lineup. The phones come with a close to stock Android build with little to no bloat included, while Micromax has also vowed to deliver “two years” of Android updates. Now, the company made another step towards promoting third-party development for the device duo: kernel sources.

The company took to its official forums to announce that the kernel source for the Micromax IN 1B and IN Note 1 are now available on its GitHub instance for everyone to freely download, have a look, and compile. Apart from the kernel source availability, part of what already makes these devices so open for development is their easily unlockable bootloader. Over in the Micromax forums, an official staff member posted two device-specific guides that walk you through the process of how to unlock the bootloader of these smartphones. It’s literally as simple as executing a standard Fastboot command as we see with Google Pixel and OnePlus devices.

Note that unlocking the bootloader will factory reset your device and disable OTA updates, but the step is absolutely essential if you wish to root or install a custom software on your phone. Redmi K40 is likely to come to global markets as a POCO phone

Although POCO insists on calling itself an independent brand, its product portfolio mostly consists of rebranded Xiaomi devices. For example, the POCO F2 Pro from last year was a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro 5G, the POCO X2 was a rebranded Redmi K30, and the POCO M2 Pro was a rehashed Redmi Note 9 Pro. While the company has launched a couple of original devices in the recent past, it seems like POCO isn’t going to completely give up the rebranding strategy anytime soon. We have now learned that the company is planning to launch the upcoming Redmi K40 as a POCO-branded phone in some markets.

As a recent tweet from XDA Senior Member Deic points out, a new POCO device was recently certified by IMDA (Singapore). The listing reveals that the device will go by the model number M2012K11AG and the codename alioth. It further mentions that the device will feature a Snapdragon 870 SoC, a 48MP primary camera, a 6.67-inch display, and a 4,420mAh battery.

In case that sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve previously spotted the same device on Chinese certification authority TENAA’s website, with Redmi branding and model number M2012K11AC. The device is believed to be the Redmi K40, which will be launched in China later today. As you can tell, both the devices feature the same model number, with the exception of the last letter. Based on the model numbers of previous Xiaomi and Redmi devices, we believe that the ‘C’ stands for China and the ‘G’ stands for Global. Therefore, we suspect that POCO will launch the Redmi K40 under its own brand name in select markets outside of China.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold

This is not your traditional laptop, but a large 13.3-inch Windows tablet that folds down in the middle. Launched last year, the ThinkPad X1 Fold is an ambitious 2-in-1 folding device from Lenovo that is unlike any notebook you might have used. If you don’t like the onscreen keyboard, you can also use the physical keyboard or just fold the display and slap it on the tablet for a regular laptop experience. This machine comes with an Intel Lakefield Core i5 processor with 8G of RAM and 1TB of storage with optional 5G connectivity. However, with pricing starting at $2400, this does not come cheap.
