Google Pixel 5 leaked renders show off punch hole display, dual camera setup

Following the launch of the Pixel 4A earlier this month, Google shared a teaser for two more smartphones that the company is expected to launch this fall: the Google Pixel 4A 5G and Google Pixel 5. While the company is yet to reveal any substantial details about the upcoming devices, leaked renders of the Pixel 5 have now surfaced online, giving us our first look at the device.

The leaked renders of the Google Pixel 5 were shared by noted leaker @OnLeaks, and they show off the device’s new punch-hole display and dual-camera setup. As you can see in the attached images, the Pixel 5 looks a lot like the recently released Pixel 4A, except for the extra camera on the back and the new back panel finish. The device features a flat display with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera in the top right corner, and it’s expected to measure between 5.7 and 5.8-inches.

The Google Pixel 5 will offer buyers a unibody design, with a unique finish that we’ve already seen in the previous teaser. While these renders show off the Pixel 5 in the black colorway, Jon Prosses from FrontPageTech has claimed that the device will also be offered in a green color variant. OneLeaks has also shared the dimensions of the Pixel 5, and it will measure 144.7 x 70.4 x 8.1mm, with the camera bump increasing its thickness to 8.5mm.

The device will feature a rear-mounted circular fingerprint scanner and a square camera module with two cameras and an LED flash. The camera module also includes a third sensor, but the renders reveal no information about this additional sensor.

Furthermore, the renders showcase that the power button and volume rocker on the device will be on the right edge, while the SIM tray will be left edge. The bottom edge will pack in a USB Type-C port and two speaker grilles. Unlike the Pixel 4A, the Google Pixel 5 won’t include a 3.5mm headphone jack. Along with these leaked renders, a recent tweet from leaker @rquandt reveals that both the Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 will be offered in 128GB storage variants.

Samsung Galaxy S20 series gets One UI 2.5 update with Galaxy Note 20 features

The One UI custom skin from Samsung is soon going to get its third iteration based on Android 11, but the Korean OEM has been simultaneously working on an intermediate version named One UI 2.5 as well. The recently released Galaxy Note 20 series, the Galaxy Tab S7/S7+, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 come with preinstalled One UI 2.5, while a number of older devices running One UI 2.1 are expected to receive this new version via an incremental update. In fact, the transition has already been started, as some variants of the Galaxy S20 lineup are now receiving One UI 2.5 in the form of a new firmware update.

We knew One UI 2.5 was headed to the Galaxy 20 series as Max Weinbach from our team spotted the internal test builds last month. Talking about today’s stable update, users on our forums have reported that the OTAs are rolling out for the international 5G variants of the Galaxy S20 (SM-G981B), Galaxy S20+ (SM-G986B), and the Galaxy S20 Ultra (SM-G988B) models with the software version G98xBXXU4BTH5. The updates are currently available for download across various European countries, including Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and the Nordic region.

Samsung’s own software update tracker has yet to list the actual changelog of the new firmware, but SamMobile has confirmed that the One UI 2.5 build for the Galaxy S20 does bring all the new features from the Galaxy Note 20 series. The underlying layer of One UI 2.5 is still based on Android 10, which is why it is possible to port some of the updated stock apps to One UI 2.1. However, a full-fledged official software update unlocks multiple subtle improvements, e.g. the ability to use navigation gestures with third-party launchers.

The OTAs are rolling out in batches, but experienced users can skip the queue and download the new firmware packages directly from the Samsung update server using Frija. There is no change in the bootloader version, though, which means you still have the freedom to revert back to One UI 2.1 if you want.

WSL 2 support comes to Windows 10 v1903 and v1909

Microsoft first announced Windows Subsystem for Linux 2/WSL 2 during Microsoft Build last year and it was rolled out to the stable version earlier this year with the Windows 10 May 2020 update (version 2004). The update introduced a full Linux kernel to the stable Windows 10 branch and the company also made WSL 2 updatable through Windows Update, which meant that users no longer had to rely on the command line option to update the kernel. Now, Microsoft is bringing WSL 2 support to older versions of Windows 10.

According to a recent post on the Windows Command Line blog, WSL 2 support is making its way to Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 via an update. However, the backport will only be available for x64 systems, and users who are running an ARM64 version will need to update to Windows 10 version 2004 to gain access to WSL 2.

In case you’re one of the many users running Windows 10 version 1903 or 1909, you can head over to the Update & Security section in the Windows Settings and click on Check for Updates to see if you’ve received the update. As the blog post explains, you can check if you’ve received the backport by verifying the minor build number of your current Windows 10 build.

To do so, you’ll need to right click on the start menu, click ‘Run’, type in ‘winver’, and then hit enter. On the following page, you’ll be able to check your OS Build number. If your minor build number (numbers that appear after the ‘.’ in the OS Build number) is 1049 or higher on Windows builds 18362 or 18363, then you have received the backport and, therefore, WSL 2 support.

After you’ve verified that you’ve received the backport, you can then follow the instructions given in this post to install WSL, or simply update to use WSL 2. With WSL 2 support, you’ll be able to compile LineageOS custom ROMs on your Windows 10. If you’re interested in trying that out, you can follow this guide to get started.

Samsung Galaxy M51 with an insane 7,000 mAh battery expected to launch in September

We first learned about the Samsung Galaxy M51 earlier this year in March, when renowned leaker @OnLeaks shared CAD renders of the upcoming device. At the time, we didn’t have much information about its specifications but the renders revealed that the device would feature a 6.5-inch display with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the back panel, and USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. Now, leaker Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) has managed to procure more details about the device, including information about its RAM/storage variants.

According to a recent report from Pricebaba, the Samsung Galaxy M51 will feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. The device will, most likely, be powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 730 chip, coupled with either 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

As seen in the leaked renders, the Samsung Galaxy M51 will include a quad-camera setup on the back with a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro camera. Over on the front, the device will feature a 32MP selfie shooter. The report further adds that the device will pack in a massive 7,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. On the software front, the device will run Samsung’s One UI 2.1 based on Android 10.

While the Samsung Galaxy M51 seems to be a standard mid-range smartphone, for the most part, its 7,000mAh battery will surely give it an edge over the competition. Based on the performance of the Galaxy M31s, which packs in a 6,000mAh battery, we can safely assume that the Galaxy M51 will offer over 20 hours of screen-on-time and it will comfortably last over two days on a single charge.

As of now, we have no official information from Samsung regarding the release timeline for the Galaxy M51. However, Pricebaba claims that the device will be unveiled in September. It’s also worth noting that a support page for the device was recently spotted on Samsung Russia’s website, which suggests that it might be launched in the following weeks.

Xiaomi may rebrand the international Redmi 9C as Redmi 9 and POCO C3 in India

Towards the end of last month, we found evidence that Xiaomi was planning to rebrand the Redmi 9C as the POCO C3 for the Indian market. The upcoming POCO C3 was spotted in a Bluetooth certification listing with the model number M2006C3MI, which is precisely the same as the model number for the budget-friendly Redmi 9C. Now, leaked renders of the upcoming Redmi 9 (Indian variant) have surfaced online, suggesting that it’s also based on the same device.

The leaked renders of the Redmi 9 were shared by leaker Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414) and they reveal that the Indian variant of the Redmi 9 looks nothing like the Redmi 9 international variant that was launched earlier this year in June. The device in the renders closely resembles the Redmi 9C, with a square camera module and a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back. However, there’s one well-concealed difference.

At first glance, you’ll notice that the Xiaomi Redmi 9 renders showcase a device with a triple camera setup, much like the Redmi 9C. However, on close inspection, you’ll see that one of the three camera sensors on the back of the device is just a blank space. This means that the Indian variant of the Redmi 9 won’t feature the same triple camera setup found on the Redmi 9C. This detail has been corroborated by another renowned leaker, Ishaan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24), who noted that the renders of the Redmi 9 India variant are that of the Redmi 9C NFC variant that was launched in Europe earlier this year, except for the missing third camera sensor.

The leaked Xiaomi Redmi 9 renders are accompanied by specifications of the device, which further confirms our suspicions. The Redmi 9 India variant is expected to feature a 6.53-inch HD+ LCD display, a 13MP+2MP dual camera setup on the back, and a 5MP selfie shooter over on the front. The device will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio G35 chip, coupled with a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support.

We’ve also learned that the Xiaomi Redmi 9 India variant will go by the codename cattail, and it will be part of the Redmi 9C (codename angelica) family, despite the difference in codename. Thanks to XDA Senior Member Deic, we can also confirm that the upcoming POCO C3 will go by the codename angelicain, and it’s expected to be a closer copy of the Redmi 9C.

As mentioned in a previous post, POCO shares a centralized product R&D with Xiaomi, and all of its devices are based on existing Xiaomi phones. For instance, the POCO F1 was loosely based on the Xiaomi Mi 8, the POCO X2 was a rebranded Redmi K30 4G, the POCO F2 Pro was a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro 5G, and the POCO M2 Pro was based on the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Irrespective of that, POCO maintains that it’s a separate brand that differentiates itself in other aspects like its go-to-market strategy and sales. According to POCO General Manager C. Manmohan, the brand’s strength lies in the community and its feedback, which is where its team works to improve its devices.

Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi 9 in India on August 27th, as per teasers shared by the company. As of now, we don’t have any information regarding the launch timeline for the POCO C3.
