YouTube Premieres adds more excitement with trailers, live redirects, and countdown themes

YouTube has announced new features designed to make YouTube Premieres a more exciting destination on the internet. Premieres allows creators to live stream and publish pre-recorded videos to their channel; the feature has been used by companies this year in lieu of in-person events.

There are three new features: Trailers, Live Redirects, and Countdown Themes. The features give creators greater control over the viewing experience, and gives YouTube Premiers more traditional marketing structure. Now, before the next Google or Apple event, these companies can play a trailer that hypes up what they’re about to announce.

YouTube Premieres Live Redirect

Live Redirect is one of the more intriguing new features in YouTube Premieres. When a creator has a premiere scheduled, they can hold a live stream prior to their video going live. Once the live stream ends, the live audience will be seamlessly redirected. It’s almost like a pre-show before a major event. Creators will be able to use this feature to engage with their audience before premiering a video.

The Live Redirect feature could easily direct users to the new Trailers feature. Trailers give creators the opportunity to upload a pre-recorded hype video that can be anywhere from 15 seconds to three minutes.

YouTube Premieres Trailers

Finally, Countdown Themes allows users to select a custom countdown video that matches their content. According to YouTube, there are a range of “themes, vibes, and moods” to choose from. “Whether you’re looking for something calm, playful, dramatic, or sporty, with the new countdown themes we’ve got you covered.”

Live Redirect and Trailers is available to eligible creators beginning today. Countdown Themes, meanwhile, will be available in the coming months. With so many in-person events being replaced by live streams and pre-recorded videos, these new features should make Premieres a more exciting online hangout.

Samsung Store’s TV sales continue, with discounts on the Q70T, The Sero, and more

If I must be honest, I always dislike trying to find a new TV during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Yes, there is a lot on sale, but it’s overwhelming to work through all the retailers and all the deals to find a TV that fits my space and other requirements. If I do finally find that TV, there’s also a decent chance it’s sold out, being available at insane doorbuster prices for about five minutes. I prefer to take my time when making such a big purchase. Thankfully Samsung understands, and their Samsung Store TV sale continues, offering the Black Friday discounts on a variety of sets.

We’ve already covered The Frame and Crystal TVs during the holiday shopping weekend, and both are still available at a discount here. I guess it wasn’t the last chance to save after all! If you’re looking for a TV set that doesn’t look like a TV at all, The Frame is the way to go. Meanwhile, the Crystal TVs are basic but powerful 4K smart TV sets, and they’ll be great for most average consumers looking for a new set.

But, these aren’t the only sets that are a part of the Samsung Store TV sale! There’s also The Sero, an interesting TV that can switch between landscape and portrait mode. It can easily mirror your smartphone screen, and you can save $300 on it!

Also, the 8K Q900TS smart TV is on sale, which is probably the most advanced Samsung smart TV on the market. You can save an incredible $2,500 on the 75-inch TV set, which Springs the total down to $5,000. That’s still incredibly expensive, but this is the bleeding edge of TV technology, so it’s not too surprising.

No matter what kind of TV you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find it at the Samsung Store, so give the selection a look!

    Samsung Store TV Holiday Offers
No matter what you're looking for in a TV set, Samsung is sure to have it! Give their select of TVs at their holiday sale a look, and get yourself an early holiday gift.

PlayStation 5 Restocks: When, where, and how to buy Sony’s new gaming console

The PlayStation 5 has, in short, been a nightmare to actually get your hands on, so far. With the limited pre-order stock, site outages, and random seconds-long PlayStation 5 restocks, consumers are being left frustrated and without a (massive) new console to adorn their entertainment center. It’s a frustrating situation for sure, and while we can’t offer you a surefire way to get a PlayStation 5, we can help by gathering everything you need to know in one place. Check out below and happy hunting!

By the way, we also have a restock guide for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S!

When and where will the PlayStation 5 be restocked?

While we believe the information below is accurate, it’s important to note that sometimes restocks don’t happen as planned. Restocks may go up late, websites may break, or retailers may just change their minds. This information is to help you plan as much as possible for possible restocks.

Things might look a bit rough, but there is hope for some PlayStation 5 restocks! Sony has announced via Twitter that more PS5s will come in stock throughout December:

However, the questions of ‘when’ and ‘where’ are still up in the air.

Your best bet at this time will be with PlayStation Direct, who is doing something a little different with their PlayStation 5 restocks. They allow you to enter a queue daily, giving you a chance to order the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. So far, this seems to be a more effective method of trying for the PlayStation 5, but being in the queue doesn’t guarantee a console.

Amazon and Best Buy have had the consoles come in and out of stock at random intervals. If you check in occasionally, you may get lucky. However, with no way of knowing when they’ll come in stock, it’s hard to recommend them unless you’re also following a bot or Twitter account that follows stock from minute to minute.

Some other retailers had console stock during Black Friday, but have been silent about PlayStation 5 availability for the rest of the holiday season. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon!

Finally, if you don’t mind paying a hugely inflated price, you can pick up a PlayStation 5 from StockX. While it’s not something I’d recommend, if you need a PlayStation 5 in time for your holidays, then StockX will be the better reseller place to buy from. Unfortunately, eBay is rife with misleading listings that can turn your happy holidays into something miserable.

General advice for restocks

Trying to get your hands on something with limited stock is really, really stressful. Make sure to give yourself the best chance you can by following the advice below!

  • Make sure you have an account at the store, and all personal information is updated. Restocks of popular items like the PlayStation 5 put huge strains on websites. On top of that, when it comes to items like this, retailers will only allow you to hold it in your cart for a few minutes. Don’t waste your chance trying to update your address or payment information!
  • Start refreshing the page early. Often, retailers won’t put stock up at EXACTLY the moment they say. It may be a few minutes early or late. Get to the store page of the item you want before the restock time. You might get lucky!
  • Use Ctrl+F5, not just F5. This gives you a hard refresh that doesn’t pull store information from the cache. So, you won’t get outdated information and will be able to see the “Buy” button as soon as possible!
  • It’s usually better to be on the computer, rather than your phone. While that is not always the case, mobile websites aren’t always optimized for fast refreshing. Or optimized for mobile viewing at all, sometimes. However, sometimes you can have better luck on a mobile app than a browser site. It’s not very often, though, so it’s best to start trying with your computer browser, first.

PlayStation 5 Store Links

Don’t waste time and effort searching for store links when going for a PlayStation 5 restock. We’ve gathered all the potential US retailers and the store pages you need below!

Samsung Galaxy S20 on Verizon is already getting updated to One UI 3 (Android 11)

Verizon has published support pages for the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, all of which detail an update to One UI 3.0 based on Android 11. The support pages provide users with instructions on how to prepare for the new software.

Shortly after the support pages were published, a number of users on Reddit said their Galaxy S20 device has received the update, so the rollout from Verizon appears to be swift. The update to Android 11 introduces several new features, including conversation bubbles, categorized notifications, and One UI 3.0, which itself comes with its own host of new features.

Samsung has detailed what’s new in One UI 3.0 on several occasions, so check out our previous coverage for a better understanding of what’s new. Basically, One UI 3.0 is all about providing users with an experience that’s simpler and more optimized. “It provides you with meaningful innovations and improves your everyday life, ensuring that you adapt in the ever0changing world,” Samsung previously said.

One of the most exciting new features in One UI 3.0 is the enhanced Quick Panel, which allows users to easily switch back and forth between their music and videos. Users also get more information at a glance thanks to an improved notification panel.

On Verizon’s support pages, the carrier also highlights some of the new features in Android 11, including the improved privacy controls. One of the changes Google introduced is one-time permissions, which allows users to give one-time permissions to apps that need your mic, camera or location. The next time the app needs access to one of these three things, it must ask for permission.

As part of the update to Android 11, Verizon is also rolling out the November 2020 security patch. Verizon estimates that the download should take around 10 minutes. You can visit any of the support pages if need help preparing for the update.

Developers boot Windows 10 and Linux via virtualization on Apple Silicon Mac

Ever since Apple announced its custom ARM-based chipset for the Mac lineup, the Apple M1 SoC, modding enthusiasts have waited for the platform to be blown wide open. Users have theorized for a long time now whether it would be possible to boot Windows or standard Linux distributions on ARM Macs. After all, the mainline Linux kernel and Windows 10 are no strangers to the ARM world. All that’s left is the blood, sweat, and tears of developers interested enough in deciphering Apple’s custom ARM implementation. Now, thanks to the efforts of multiple developers, it is possible to boot Windows 10 as well as Linux on the Apple Silicon Mac, albeit via virtualization.

Alexander Graf, an engineer from Amazon on AWS, has been fiddling with the popular open-source machine emulator and virtualizer QEMU to add Apple Silicon support. He has put a ton of work into making the necessary Hypervisor framework patches to the QEMU codebase in order to run both Linux and Windows as guests on M1 Macs. We’re now at a point where almost all basic functionality, including virtualized audio and network interfaces, work. What’s even more interesting is that traditional Win32 apps built for the x86 architecture work just fine on the guest Windows 10 VM, thanks to the WoW for ARM64 emulation layer.

Several developers have banded together to fix the remaining bugs and make the installation process more user-friendly. Installing a virtualized instance of Linux or Windows 10 on your Apple Silicon Mac does not remove the main OS installed on it, so you don’t need to worry about breaking anything. If you want to get started with Windows 10 on your shiny new ARM Mac via QEMU, check out the video tutorial below.

There are still significant barriers before we’ll see Windows or Linux natively booting on ARM Macs, though. According to Linux creator Linus Torvalds, the closed nature of the integrated GPU and other components in the M1 SoC makes the porting process a bit complicated, “…unless Apple opens up“. While Apple isn’t planning to support Boot Camp on M1-based Macs, the idea of Linux or Windows running on a power-efficient, yet extremely capable ARM platform is utterly intriguing for anyone who prefers Apple’s build quality but doesn’t want to limit themselves to macOS. We’ll definitely keep an eye on the modding scene to see how these developments progress, and hopefully how it ends up benefiting the x86-to-ARM transition phase in computing.

Download: Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is getting its Android 11 update with MIUI 12

Back in September, Xiaomi delivered the first Android 11 “stable beta” build for the Mi 10 Pro to a very small group of early adopters. The owners of this phone are patiently waiting for the true stable update to hit their devices, based on the fact that the global variant of the regular Mi 10 recently picked up its stable Android 11 build with tons of new features and optimizations. The wait is finally over, as Xiaomi has now started rolling out Mi 10 Pro’s stable Android 11 update with MIUI 12 across the globe.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro XDA Forums

Compared to the initial Android 11 build, the most notable change in the new firmware is the inclusion of the October 2020 security patches. The software version number is bumped to V12.2.1.0.RJAMIXM from V12.1.2.0.RJAMIXM. Apart from these changes, users can look forward to new camera functionalities. Xiaomi says the update will be rolling out in batches — a small part of the user base will receive the OTA initially, with the rollout gradually expanding to more users.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Android 11 About

You can find the full changelog of the stable Android 11 update for the Mi 10 Pro below. Note that the Android security patch level (SPL) is incorrectly mentioned as September 2020.

    • Stable MIUI based on Android 11
    • Updated Android Security Patch to September 2020
    • Increased system security

    • New: New AI moonscape functionality
    • New: New templates for vlogs
    • New: Vlogs can be now saved as drafts
    • Optimization: New vlog templates and presets will be available for downloading from the cloud from now on

Whether you are running Android 10 on your Mi 10 Pro or you are an existing Mi Pilot user, you have to download the full ZIP, which comes in at 2.8GB in size. Besides the regular Recovery ZIP, Xiaomi has also made the Fastboot flashable firmware package public. Users no longer need an authorized Mi Account to flash the former, which further indicates the stable nature of the build.

Samsung Internet 13.0 introduces beefed up privacy and security features

Samsung has begun rolling out Samsung Internet 13.0, which the company said introduces features that will provide users with a safer browsing experience.

One of the big new features is known as “Secret mode.” This new mode allows users to automatically clear their browsing history as soon as all Secret mode tabs are closed. Users will see an icon to indicate when Secret mode is enabled.

The update will also warn users when they visit a potentially malicious website. “Samsung Internet 13.0 offers a new permission request UI that will display a warning message if a website seems malicious and is attempting to trick users into allowing notifications.” Samsung Internet

In addition to Samsung Internet 13.0’s improved privacy and security features, the update also provides users with a better user experience:

  • You can now use High contrast mode with Dark mode on, to make fonts and other components stand out even more.
  • Samsung Internet 13.0 also introduces an Expandable App Bar for menus such as Bookmarks, Saved pages, History and Downloads.
  • Get more screen space by hiding the status bar, to immerse yourself in the content you’re browsing.
  • When watching a video in full screen with Video assistant, pause it by double tapping the middle of the screen.
  • Easily edit the title of your bookmarks so that they’re easier to recognize and search.

Finally, Samsung said new Application Programming Interface (API) modules are now available for Samsung Internet 13.0, which will give developers the opportunity to use these APIs to build extensions. Some of the new modules include WebRequest, Proxy, Cookies, Types, History, Alarms, Privacy, and more. Interested developers can learn more about developing a third-party extension by visiting this link.

Samsung Internet 13.0 was first detailed when Samsung released a beta It’s been a few months, but now the features are available for everyone.
