Android 11 Update Tracker: List of major phones getting the latest release!

It’s that time of year again when Google releases the new version of its mobile operating system, and after a long few months of beta testing, the American tech giant is finally rolling out the stable version of Android 11. But of course, it’s not just Pixel users who are getting this update. A range of OEMs have announced that they plan to roll it out to their users, and as Android is an open-source operating system, we’ll no doubt see manufacturers unveil their own custom software that runs on Android 11. In case you’re looking for the answer to the question “when will my phone get Android 11?“, read on to find out. If you don’t find your device here, you can check if Android 11 custom ROMs are available for it.

Google

What’s great about owning a Pixel smartphone is that because it’s created by Google, you’re guaranteed to get the latest Android updates first. And that’s not changed in 2020 as the stable version of Android 11 has now landed on the current lineup of Pixel handsets.  As is often the case, you can expect a stock Android experience when you update your Pixel to the new version. Android 11 is available officially on the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and Pixel 4a.

Lenovo launches the Lavie Mini PC alongside the Lavie Pro Mobile laptop

Lenovo took over NEC Corporation’s computing business back in 2016, and ever since then, it has been selling some products under the LAVIE brand. This year at CES 2021, Lenovo has come up with two Lavie branded devices – the Lavie Mini and Lavie Pro Mobile. The former is an 8-inch ultra-mobile PC, while the Lavie Pro Mobile is a more traditional-sized notebook. These releases come alongside the new Lenovo IdeaPad 5 series, the new Yoga 7 AIO PC, new monitors, and the new Lenovo Tab P11 launch as part of the company’s CES announcements.

Lavie Mini PC

The Lavie Mini is technically a pocket-sized PC, but has a lot more of a 2-in-1 convertible concept PC vibe to it. The device features an 8-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) touch panel display, and can be configured with Intel’s 11th Gen Core-i7 mobile processor with Intel Iris Xe graphics. There is a 256GB SSD on the inside with 16GB of LPDDR4 memory. With an overall weight of 579-grams, the LAVIE MINI is fairly easy to carry around and comes with a backlit keyboard as well. The tiny device also features an IR camera with Windows Hello for seamless login, up to a 26WHr battery, and Wi-Fi 6 onboard.

NEC LAVIE MINI

The device comes with a special optional Gaming Controller that transforms the mini laptop into a Nintendo Switch-esque portable gaming console. As per Lenovo, the device can handle ‘high-quality PC games such as battle royale and car racing games.’ The controller comes with all the necessary buttons and keys one would need for gaming along with vibrations, left/right trigger buttons, and analog thumbsticks. And, just like the Nintendo Switch, you can use its optional HDMI-connected Dock to play games on a large display.NEC LAVIE MINI gaming controller

Pricing and Availability

The Lavie Mini is currently a prototype and Lenovo hasn’t shared any plans regarding a launch or a price. It does however remind us of the GDP Win 3 handheld gaming PC which somewhat offers the same functionality but with a unique sliding form factor.

Lavie Pro Mobile

The second product under the NEC portfolio is the Lavie Pro Mobile. It is pretty much an upgrade for last year’s model that came with the 8th-gen Intel Core processor option in a neat and lightweight package. This year, the company is introducing some welcoming upgrades including long-lasting battery life and an improved 1.5mm key travel for a better typing experience. The notebook also comes with a lift-up hinge function that tilts your keyboard to your personal preference. Weighing at about 889-grams with a thickness of 16.7mm, it is definitely one of the lightest notebooks on the market.

As for the rest of the specs, the Lavie Pro Mobile can be configured with up to an 11th Gen Intel Core-i7 processor with Intel Iris Xe graphics, a 13.3-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, and a claimed battery life of up to 10 hours.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the notebook starts at $1699.99 in the USA, while availability details will be shared by Lenovo at a later stage.

The new Yoga AIO 7 is a rebranded version of the Lenovo Yoga 27 that is already selling in China. The most unique feature of this AIO, apart from its premium design, is the exclusive rotatable hinge that allows users to swivel between horizontal and vertical modes with the ‘push of a finger.’ This feature makes sense for someone who has to go through long lines of code but may also require a wider screen at times. Apart from that, the AIO comes with wireless casting hardware where the display can be activated without having to turn on your desktop. Lenovo is also working on a feature to allow users to display online shows directly to the screen, transforming it into a 4K smart TV.

The display on the AIO is a 27-inch 4K IPS panel that supports both 99% DCI-P3 and 99% Adobe RGB color standards for quality colors. Lenovo claims that it also offers a wider spectrum of warmer reds and yellows, and cooler greens and cyan areas. The AIO is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800H processor along with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU. This means that the machine can be used for video editing as well as gaming purposes. The PC also comes with Alexa built-in so you can control your smart home devices or set reminders, and for audio, you get front-facing JBL Harman-certified stereo speakers.

Pricing and Availability

The Yoga AIO 7 will be available in select markets starting February 2021 with a price tag of $1599. No specific plans have been revealed for the USA.

Lenovo L24i-30 and Lenovo L27e-30 Monitors

Lenovo has also introduced two new monitors that mostly focus on offering a good experience for users at home. The Lenovo L24i-30 and Lenovo L27e-30 both come with a 1920×1080 resolution and as the name suggests, they are available in either 24-inch or 27-inch sizes. These aren’t your high-end gaming monitors but they do come with IPS panels which means that you can expect great color reproduction along with wide viewing angles. The monitors also feature advanced anti-glare and eye comfort technology certified by TUV Rheinland, as well as support for AMD FreeSync. Speaking of which, these displays are capable of refresh rates of up to 75Hz via the HDMI input.

Lenovo L27e 30 Monitor feature image

It also comes with an integrated smartphone holder, so you can have a more organized desk. Apart from the HDMI port, there is a VGA connector and an audio out port. The upper half of both these monitors are fairly slim at 7.1mm while the lower half mostly includes the hardware to power up the panels.

Pricing and Availability

The Lenovo L27e-30 27-inch monitor will be available at a starting price of $189.99 while the Lenovo L24i-30 24-inch monitor will start at $159.99. Both the monitors are expected to be available in March 2021.

Samsung launches the Galaxy Chromebook 2 with a 13.3-inch QLED display

Samsung is kicking off CES 2021 with an all-new Chromebook. The new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is now official and features a premium design with a 2-in-1 form factor. We first heard about Samsung working on a new premium Chromebook last month thanks to some leaked information, but we expected it to go live alongside the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. Nonetheless, the leaked images of the product turned out to be fairly accurate, and the new model indeed looks similar to the original Galaxy Chromebook. The specifications, however, are not as premium.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Chromebook 2 will be offered in two variants. One will be powered by a 10th-gen Intel Celeron 5205U processor, while the other will make use of a 10th-gen Intel Core i3-10110U processor. As for storage and memory, the Celeron processor option is paired with 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage while the Core i3 model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. As for the display, the notebook comes with a 13.3-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) QLED panel. This is a bit disappointing as the original Galaxy Chromebook came with a 10th-gen Intel Core i5 processor with up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM, up to 1TB of SSD storage, and a 13.3-inch 4K AMOLED display.

The Chromebook 2 also features Wi-Fi 6, a 720p webcam, stereo speakers (1.5W x 2), and support for an active pen stylus which will be sold separately. The keyboard comes with backlighting and the notebook features two USB Type-C ports for charging and data transfer.

Pricing and Availability

The new Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is priced at $549.99 (Intel Celeron), and $699.99 (Intel Core i3). Samsung is yet to confirm the markets where it will be selling its new Chromebook as well as the availability date.

Google discontinues the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor but is making new Nest security cameras

Google will release a new line of security cameras this year, the company has confirmed. The company confirmed the news after selling out of the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor on the Google Store.

The Nest Cam lineup currently consists of 4 different models. The IQ Outdoor was the most expensive of the 4 at a price of $399. It featured an 8MP image sensor, up to 1080p video capture at 30fps, 130° field-of-view, 850nm infrared LEDs for night vision, a speaker and microphones for two-way audio, and support for Google’s smart features including Supersight close-up tracking and familiar face alerts. With a Nest Aware subscription, you can store event video history, set up intelligent sound alerts, activity zones, and share clips.

Although the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is sold out on the Google Store, Google confirmed to 9to5Google that existing owners will receive “ongoing feature support, software fixes, and critical security updates.” The product first launched in June of 2017, but given the work that homeowners had to do to equip their homes with one or more security cameras, it’s important that Google provides continued support.

For users who are interested in picking up a Nest Cam, the regular model is still on sale, though it’s probably better to wait for the new products that Google has in store. In a statement to 9to5Google, the company confirmed that it will “keep investing in new innovations” such as a “new lineup of security cameras for 2021.” We don’t have any details on what the new security cameras will be capable of, but it’ll be interesting to see how Google will apply its advancements in machine learning and image processing to power new smart features in the 2021 Nest Cam lineup.
