Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy M51 are the latest to get the Android 11 update with One UI 3.1

Samsung continues to defy expectations by releasing new Android updates for its vast catalog of devices. Over the past several months, the company has really pushed back against its reputation of lagging behind with Android updates, bringing Android 11 with One UI 3.1 to more of its devices just this week. And the company is back today with yet another update, bringing the updated software to the Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy M51.

Galaxy M51 owners (via SamMobile) will be feeling particularly good, because today’s release is the first major Android update for the device. When the handset originally launched last September, it came with Android 10 and One UI 2.1 out of the box, so the jump to One UI 3.1 should make it feel like an all new device. The update, version M515FXXU2CUB7, also comes with the March 2021 security patch.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10 Lite (via SamMobile) is receiving an update to One UI 3.1. The device was previously updated to Android 11 with One UI 3.0 at the end of last year, with changes like an improved user interface and more. Samsung already released the same update for the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, and Galaxy S10e, so it’s nice to see the S10 Lite get into the mix.

According to SamMobile, wireless DeX support is not included with the One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy S10 Lite. The feature was thought to be available on all devices with One UI 3.1, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

As with any update, getting your hands on it right away could prove to be tricky, depending on where you live. The update to Android 11 with One UI 3.1 is rolling out to the Galaxy S10 Lite in Spain. Meanwhile, the update to Android 11 with One UI 3.1 is available for the Galaxy M51 in Russia. Both updates will likely be available in more regions in the coming days.

Google Chrome makes experimental features much easier to test

Google this week announced plans to release major Chrome updates more frequently — from six weeks to four weeks. To go along with that news, the search giant announced it’s making experimental features easier to test as they’re in development.

According to Alex Ainslie (via 9to5Google), head of design at Google Chrome, Canary users (and soon Dev and Beta) can access a new beaker icon in the toolbar, which makes is easy to access Chrome Experiments. Google is hoping by making these experiments easier to find, users will share more feedback.

A GIF shared by Ainslie shows features like reading list, tab scrolling, and tab search are all part of Chrome’s experiments. All of the features are pretty self-explanatory: Reading list allows users to quickly save articles to read later; tab scrolling allows users to scroll through their tab; and tab search allows users to search their open tabs.

Along with each experimental feature is a “Send Feedback” button, which users can click to share their thoughts on the new features. A few of these features we’ve already seen in various stages of development, with the reading list feature already part of Chrome 89, which is rolling out on desktop and mobile. Google seemingly still wants to continue soliciting feedback on the feature to make it a more prominent part of Chrome.

Chrome typically hides experimental features behind flags, which isn’t easy to access if you’re unfamiliar with how they work. And when they are enabled, it isn’t easy to see what you’ve turned on and off. This new experiments pane simplifies the experience and allows Google to focus on pushing features it thinks users might like.

If you’re brave enough to live in the Canary channel, you can check out Chrome’s new list of experiments. Otherwise, these features will more than likely make their way to a stable release, with reading list already available as we said.

TWRP ports are now available for the Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra

One of the biggest draws to the XDA forums are the abundance of custom ROMs, kernels, and modifications available on it. However, two major roadblocks must be overcome before aftermarket development can really take off on our forums: bootloader unlocking and then porting a custom recovery. Without the latter, it’s too risky for most users to mod their devices because you could end up making your device inoperable if you don’t have access to stock firmware images. Custom recoveries, especially Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP), are crucial to third-party development, which is why the availability of unofficial TWRP builds for the Samsung Galaxy S21 family is a big deal for the modding scene.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is undoubtedly among the best Android devices out there right now. As you’d expect, the trio of the smartphones features top-of-the-line specifications with the high-end Galaxy S21 Ultra boasting of a 108MP shooter as the primary camera. But despite the great hardware, a lot of people do not seem to enjoy Samsung’s One UI skin, while some others are concerned about the company’s aggressive background app killing policy. Fortunately, the release of the kernel source code and Magisk rooting prospect indicate that the custom development game has been slowly picking up in our forums. This seems to be true of both the Exynos and Qualcomm Snapdragon variants, for which XDA Senior Member afaneh92 has now released separate sets of unofficial TWRP 3.5.0 builds.

If you’d like to take a jab at this TWRP port, you can download it over on the appropriate device-specific thread from the index below. Note that it’s still not official, and while it will work fine for most things, there is still space for improvement. Moreover, have in mind that this will trip Knox once you flash custom binaries to your Galaxy S21, and you will not be able to take OTA updates on the phone anymore.

Make sure you read through the step-by-step installation instructions to avoid running into bootloop or other issues. You have to wipe the whole userdata partition of your phone in order to get rid of the stock encryption, so do perform a backup beforehand.

Razer Anzu smart glasses feature truly wireless audio, voice assistant support and more

Razer is known for making top-notch gaming peripherals and laptops. At the same time, it doesn’t shy away from experimenting with other products. In January, the company had launched Project Hazel, which was a face mask with RGB lighting, detachable and rechargeable active ventilators, and high bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) Smart Pods. The company has now launched the new Anzu smart glasses which seem to follow the same concept introduced by Bose and Amazon in the past. The glasses come with inbuilt speakers on the right and left temple allowing you to listen to music or even take phone calls.

Razer will be offering the Anzu in round or rectangular frames both in large and small size options. The design is somewhat similar to the Amazon Echo Frames with bulky-looking left and right temples. The glasses will be bundled with two sets of lenses that will include a clear pair with 35-percent protection against blue light, and a pair of sunglass lenses offering 99-percent UV protection. Users will also have the option to fit prescription lenses and even get a discount of 15-percent if they opt for Razer’s partner Lensabl.

As for the smart features, the glasses feature a truly wireless design which means that both sides of the temple need to be charged individually. The Anzu also features touch controls using a panel on the side that can be used to control your music, accept or reject phone calls, and prompt your phone’s voice assistant. There is an omnidirectional microphone and Bluetooth 5.1 for connectivity, alongside a low 60ms latency for lag-free operation. The glasses are rated to offer around 5.5 hours of battery life and two weeks of standby power and can be powered off just by folding them. With an IPX4 rating, the Anzu smart glasses should be able to handle light rain and sweat, but make sure you take them off when you go for a swim.

The Anzu smart glasses will be available at a starting price of $200 exclusively from Razer.com and physical Razer stores. Customers in North America will get the option of purchasing them via Best Buy US and Best Buy Canada.

XDA Forums are now open for Redmi Note 10 Pro, Realme X7, Galaxy A32, Galaxy F62, Moto G30 and more

There’s been a flurry of new smartphone launches in the last couple of weeks, with the likes of Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung bringing their latest budget and mid-range options to the market. To help owners get the most out of their devices and to stay on top of the latest trends and developments, we have opened up XDA forums for several new smartphones. The Redmi Note 10 Pro was recently launched in India as part of the Redmi Note 10 series. The Realme X7 and X7 Pro were launched in India last month to take on Xiaomi’s Mi 10i. The Realme X7 packs a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset, up to 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, a 64MP primary camera, and a 4,310mAh battery with 50W fast charging support. The Realme X7 Pro on the other hand has a 6.5-inch AMOLED 120Hz display, MediTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor, and a 4,500mAh battery with a 65W fast charger.

Samsung Galaxy A32 4G and A32 5G

The Galaxy A32 4G and 5G are pretty much identical, save for a couple of differences. The Galaxy A32 4G variant has a 6.5-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Helio G80 SoC, a 64MP primary shooter, a 5,00mAh battery, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The 5G model, on the other hand, has a slightly bigger 6.5-inch HD+ AMOLED 60Hz display, a 48MP primary camera, a 13MP primary shooter, and a side-mounted fingerprints scanner, with the rest of the hardware being the same as its 4G counterpart.

Samsung Galaxy F62

Samsung grabbed headlines when it launched the Galaxy F62 last month with a monster 7,000mAh battery. The rest of the specifications are just as impressive with the device packing a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, Exynos 9825 octa-core SoC, a 64MP Sony IMX682 primary camera, and up to 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 3.0 storage.

Moto G30 and Moto G10

The Moto G30 and Moto G10 are the latest budget-oriented smartphones from Lenovo-owned company. The Moto G30 comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC, 4GB/6GB RAM, and 128GB storage, a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary shooter, and a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. Sony Xperia Pro

The Xperia Pro is perhaps one of the most eccentric smartphones from Sony yet. It’s primarily aimed at professional photographers and broadcaster and doubles as a 4K camera monitor and a 5G phone. The Honor V40 is the first smartphone from Honor after it became an independent brand. So far it’s only available in China, but should be arriving in international markets in the coming months. Instagram will soon offer an affiliate program, keyword muting in DMs, and more

After rolling out Reels support in the Instagram Lite app late last month, the Facebook-owned image sharing platform is now working on a host of new features. These include a new affiliate marketing program, an option to mute specific keywords in direct messages, and more.

Android developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi recently shared screenshots highlighting all the aforementioned features. As you can see in the attached tweets, Instagram is working on an affiliate marketing program that will let influencers monetize their content on the platform.

The new Affiliate setting will appear in the Creator section on the app, and users will be able to sign up for it by following a few simple steps. However, the affiliate marketing feature may not be available for all users at launch.

Additionally, Instagram is working on a new “Content controls” setting that will let users block specific keywords in their direct messages. The setting will show up in the Privacy section of the app, and users have the option to add keywords they wish to mute. The app will then block all direct messages containing said keywords automatically. Users will also get the option to choose if they want to turn on keyword blocking for everyone or for specific accounts.

Furthermore, Paluzzi has discovered that Instagram is working on a new post editing option called Brightness.AI. While we don’t have any concrete information about this feature at the moment, it’s safe to assume that it will likely help users adjust the brightness of their posts automatically.

All the features mentioned above are currently in development and there’s no official word from Instagram regarding their release. We’ll update this post as soon as we learn more about them.
