OPPO finally unveiled its new Find X3 series yesterday, with the Find X3 Pro leading the charge as the most premium offering and Find X3 Neo and Find X3 Lite tagging along as premium mid-range options. But it turns out there’s one more member in the lineup that largely flew under the radar: the Find X3. The OPPO Find X3 slots below the Find X3 Pro, and except for the chipset and memory, it’s pretty much identical to the Pro model in every respect.

The OPPO Find X3 (via Pocketnow) is powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC instead of the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888 chipset used by its Pro sibling. It packs 8GB RAM, as opposed to 12GB on the Find X3 Pro, with 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 flash storage. The rest of the specifications are all too familiar: you get a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate; a quad-camera setup comprised of two 50MP sensors, a 13MP telephoto lens, and a 3MP macro lens, and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W wired fast charging and 30W wireless charging support.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO Find X3 is limited to China for now. It comes in Pearl White, Glossy Black, and Blue colors. There are two variants: 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB, with the base model priced at CNY 4,499 (~$693) and the top model coming in at CNY 4,999 (~$770). It will go on sale across China starting March 19.

The standard Find X3 offers a fantastic value proposition considering it costs significantly less than the Pro model while still offering pretty much the same experience in the same body. For reference, the base model of the OPPO Find X3 Pro retails at CNY 5,499 (~$848), while the 12GB + 256GB costs around CNY 5,999 (~$925). It’s unclear whether OPPO plans to bring the vanilla Find X3 to global markets or remain exclusive to the Chinese market.

Motorola’s Moto G50 is coming soon as a cheap 5G phone with a 90Hz display

Motorola launched the Moto G9 series in 2020 with a range of different phones at different price points. For the tenth generation, however, the company has changed its naming scheme. Instead of badging all the phones under the Moto G10 series, it is sticking with a more unifying “Moto G” moniker. Meanwhile, Motorola also launched devices with names such as Moto G10 and Moto G30 recently, with the Moto G50 to join them soon. Ahead of its official announcement, the Moto G50 has been listed online with tentative hints about the specifications and the pricing.

The Motorola Moto M50 has been listed on the website of the Spanish online retailer, ParatuPC, with a the model number, “XT2137-1.”. The said phone, although marked as Out of Stock right now, is set to be available in a 4GB+128GB configuration. The listing also mentions pricing of 229 Euros (~$275) but that might simply be a placeholder until the actual price is revealed.

The model number XT2137 is actually familiar and was earlier referred to by its codename, “Ibiza.” Our sources confirm that the Moto G50 is indeed XT2137 aka Ibiza, and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 480, the cheapest 5G-enabled chipset, and features a 90Hz display.

Notably, the specifications of the phone were also leaked by TechnikNews in collaboration with XDA Senior Writer Adam Conway earlier this year. As per this leak, the mentioned smartphone is expected to feature a 90Hz LCD waterdrop notch display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. The alleged Moto G50 is also likely to feature a triple camera setup with a 48MP primary camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor on the back, and a 13MP camera on the front. Lastly, the phone is expected to come with a 5000mAh battery and run a near-stock UI based on Android 11 right out of the box.

While the launch date of the Moto G50 has not been announced or teased by Motorola officially, the listing by the Spanish retailer suggests it might arrive very soon.

Huawei P50 renders showcase pill-shaped camera island, flat display, and more

Although we recently heard rumors about Huawei’s plans to sell off its P and Mate series, the company seems to be going full steam ahead with the production of its next flagship P series devices — the Huawei P50, Huawei P50 Pro, and Huawei P50 Pro Plus. Over the last few months, we have seen a couple of leaked renders of the P50 Pro, which have given us a good look at its design and revealed a few key specifications. Now, leaked renders of the vanilla Huawei P50 have popped up online, showcasing a similar camera module design.

Just a day after sharing Huawei P50 Pro renders, reliable leaker OnLeaks has shared renders of its less-premium sibling. The renders reveal that the Huawei P50 will feature the same camera design as the Pro variant, with a large pill-shaped camera island in the top left corner of the back panel. But unlike the P50 Pro, the non-Pro variant features a flat display on the front. However, it still has a centered hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

The leak further reveals that the Huawei P50 will measure 156.7 x 74 x 8.3mm (10.6mm with the rear camera bump) and feature a glass back with a metal frame that has fewer curves. Due to its smaller footprint, the device will feature a 6.3-inch panel with slightly thicker bezels. The device will also feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, and a dual speaker setup.

In contrast, the Huawei P50 Pro is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch curved display with slim bezels. It will measure 159 x 73 x 8.6mm, and it will likely house more camera sensors in its pill-shaped camera island. While we don’t have any other reliable info on the devices, rumors suggest that the devices will feature Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000 chip, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. The phones are expected to pack high refresh displays, with the P50 packing a 90Hz panel and the P50 Pro packing a 120Hz panel.

Qualcomm may be struggling to procure enough Snapdragon 888 chips for flagship phones

Qualcomm unveiled its flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset towards the end of last year. Since then, the chipset has made an appearance on several flagship devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy S21 lineup, Xiaomi’s Mi 11 and Redmi K40 devices, and the recently launched ROG Phone 5 and OPPO Find X3 Pro, among others. In the next few days, OnePlus will also launch its Snapdragon 888-powered flagships, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, which will likely be followed by several other such flagships over the next few months. But while OEMs are announcing new Snapdragon 888 devices as per their usual schedule, Qualcomm may not be able to supply enough chips to get these new smartphones into your hands.

As a new report from Reuters points out, Qualcomm is currently struggling to meet the demand for both its flagship and mid-range chips due to a global semiconductor shortage. Sources familiar with the details have told the publication that a shortage of Qualcomm’s chips has hit the production of Samsung’s mid-range and low-end models, and the company’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip is also in short supply.

Although a Samsung spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, a Qualcomm representative reassured the publication that the company believes it can meet its fiscal second-quarter sales forecast. Despite Qualcomm’s reassurance, a senior executive at a top contract manufacturer for several smartphone OEMs told Reuters that it was facing a shortage of a variety of Qualcomm components and would cut handset shipments this year. Since the shortage doesn’t affect Qualcomm’s flagship chipset alone, we expect to see a significant decline in smartphone sales this year.

It’s worth noting that Qualcomm isn’t the only company affected by the global semiconductor shortage. Several consumer electronics and automobile manufacturers are dealing with a dearth of chips, which has resulted in a stockpiling race that further exacerbates the issue.

Windows 10 fresh installations to no longer include Paint 3D and 3D Viewer

Microsoft has taken the decision to no longer include Paint 3D and 3D Viewer apps on new Windows 10 installations. This change comes right after the 3D Objects folder in the My PC section was hidden by default in an Insider build released on February 24, 2021. Paint 3D and 3D Viewer were introduced by Microsoft in the 2017 Windows 10 Creators Update, two years after the official release of Windows 10. However, both the apps are not very popular, which is possibly the reason why they are no longer included by default.

Paint 3D was more of a rethink of Paint that focussed on 3D art creation. On the other hand, 3D Viewer was used for viewing 3D models in the application. Microsoft highlighted Paint 3D as a big addition to Windows when it was launched four years ago. There were also plans to replace the regular version of Paint and offer it as an optional app on the Microsoft Store. However, those plans didn’t really materialize. Similarly, 3D Objects was also added to Windows 10 via the same Creators Update, but the app didn’t have any solid purpose for mainstream users.

According to Insider build (v21332) changelog (via GHacks.net) that was released on March 10, 2021, 3D Paint and 3D Viewer will not be preinstalled on new installs of the latest Insider Preview builds. This also means that future versions of Windows 10 will not have these apps as well. Notably, these will remain installed on a PC that has been upgraded from earlier versions of Windows 10, although you always have the option of uninstalling them.

3D Viewer and Paint 3D will no longer be preinstalled on clean installs of the latest Insider Preview builds. Both apps will still be available in the Store and will stay on your device after an OS update. So, if you upgraded your PC like normal, you shouldn’t see these apps changed in your app list.

Both of the apps will however remain available via the Microsoft Store, allowing users to download and install these on Windows machines that do not have them preinstalled. We have added direct links to the apps in case you are interested

Microsoft adds Doom, Fallout, Skyrim and other iconic Bethesda titles to Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of game publisher Bethesda, was finalized earlier this week at $7.5 billion. To welcome the new studio, Microsoft has made a new announcement that should be good news for gamers. The Xbox Game Pass will offer some of the most popular and award-winning games from Bethesda. Gamers can expect titles like Doom, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Wolfenstein to be available starting today March 12, 2021.

Microsoft also says that a total of 20 titles will be on offer, out of which 16 will be available across platforms be it PC, console, or mobile devices via cloud streaming for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.

Some of the games will also benefit from the newly introduced FPS Boost feature on the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The FPS Boost feature was introduced last month where owners of the new Xbox consoles could enjoy older games at enhanced frame rates.

Here is the entire list of Bethesda games that are coming to the Xbox Game Pass:

  • Dishonored Definitive Edition (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Dishonored 2 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • DOOM (1993) (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • DOOM II (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • DOOM 3 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • DOOM 64 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • DOOM Eternal (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Console, PC)
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Console, PC)
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • The Elder Scrolls Online (Cloud, Console)
  • The Evil Within (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Fallout 4 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Fallout 76 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Fallout: New Vegas (Console)
  • Prey (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • RAGE 2 (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (Console, PC, Cloud)
  • Wolfenstein: Youngblood (Console, PC, Cloud)

Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, had revealed (via TheVerge) that the Xbox Game Pass is the sole reason why the company is paying $7.5 billion to take over Bethesda. “If you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is that this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists. That’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building.” You can expect to see Bethesda games existing solely on platforms where Game Pass is available.

Right after the confirmation of the acquisition, Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines said in a blog post that there won’t be any major changes yet. “First, let me say that we’re not making any landmark announcements or changes right now. As we’ve all shared, the expectation is that Bethesda Softworks and our studios will continue as we have in the past, just with more support and resources than we’ve ever had before. Obviously, Game Pass has been an important initiative for Xbox, and we’ll be working on putting even more of our games into Game Pass than ever before. Beyond that? Stay tuned, we’re just getting started together.

Spotify’s mobile app now supports 36 new languages, including many Indic ones

It’s been slightly over two years since Spotify entered the Indian market. In that time, the music streaming service has introduced several new features to attract more users in the country. It has even slashed its prices to compete with domestic alternatives like Jio Saavn and Gaana. Furthermore, Spotify has launched a lite version of its Android app for users with entry-level smartphones and bandwidth restrictions. But despite these efforts, domestic alternatives continue to dominate the music streaming market. This is likely due to two main factors — price and regional language support. Spotify is now addressing one of these factors with the latest update for its mobile apps.

During its Stream On event last month, Spotify revealed that it planned to expand to over 80 new markets and introduce support for 36 new languages. While the web version of the service has already received support for the new languages, Spotify is now finally rolling out an update for its mobile apps with the additional language support.

The latest Spotify update brings support for these languages: Afrikaans, Amharic, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Bulgarian, Simplified Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Estonian, Filipino, Gujarati, Hindi, Icelandic, Kannada, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Odia, Persian, Portuguese for Portugal, Eastern Punjabi, Western Punjabi, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Zulu.

This update will likely help Spotify gain some traction in emerging markets with a high concentration of regional language speakers. However, it may not make a huge difference in India because Spotify is still one of the pricier music streaming services in the country. Subscriptions from alternatives like JioSaavn, Wynk, and Gaana are not only much cheaper, but they often come bundled with mobile recharges, so users don’t have to pay anything extra to use them. On top of that, domestic services offer a wide selection of regional music, which may not be available on Spotify.
