The latest update for the OnePlus 9 series adds a HDR mode for video recording

It wasn’t too long ago that OnePlus rolled out a software update to the OnePlus 9 series. The last OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 9 / Pro reduced power draw, improved the charging experience, and optimized the camera performance, among other things. But it seems some bugs might have been left unfixed, so the company is rolling out another update to its 2021 flagships.

The latest OxygenOS 11.2.7.7 update has started hitting the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro units in India. It’s a minor update that reduces power consumption in specific scenarios, fixes bugs, and improves video shooting and recording. Interestingly the update also adds a new HDR mode for video recording on the OnePlus 9 Pro.

OxygenOS 11.2.7.7 is currently rolling out to the Indian OnePlus and OnePlus 9 Pro devices but should soon expand to more regions. As always, the update is rolling out in a staged fashion so that it will reach a small portion of devices today, with a wider rollout in the coming days. If you own an unlocked OnePlus 9 or OnePlus 9 Pro, be on the lookout for a new update. If you don’t want to wait, you can also grab an OTA package corresponding to your model from the links given below and update your device manually.

    The standard OnePlus 9 offers a flagship performance at a reasonable price. It packs a 6.5-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display, a triple-camera setup tuned by Hasselblad, and the Snapdragon 888 SoC.

LineageOS 18 builds are here for the OnePlus 9 Pro, Razer Phone 2, and Lenovo P2

The LineageOS team has been hard at work extending LineageOS 18.1 builds based on Android 11 to more devices. The team released the first official builds for nearly 60 devices earlier this year in March and added several more devices over the next few months. Now, the team has extended support to a few more devices, including the OnePlus 9 Pro, the Razer Phone 2, and the Lenovo P2.

If you have one of these devices, you can now download LineageOS 18.1 by following the Wiki links mentioned in the table below. (Note: The Wiki link for the OnePlus 9 Pro wasn’t live at the time of writing. You may have to wait a while to access the download link.)

After downloading the LineageOS 18.1 build for your device, you can follow the guide linked in your phone’s Wiki page to install the build on your device. Do note that the installation instructions might vary per device, so make sure you follow the correct instructions, or you may end up bricking your phone.

The latest custom ROM from the LineageOS team is based on Android 11, and it brings several new features and improvements to the table. Samsung’s upcoming affordable flagship stars in four colorful renders

Back in March, a leaked product roadmap confirmed Samsung’s plans for a Galaxy S20 FE successor. The last year’s Galaxy S20 FE was a big hit, and Samsung is hoping to repeat the same with the Galaxy S21 FE this year. Leaks so far have revealed plenty of details about the Galaxy S21 FE, including its overall design as well as some probable specifications. Now a new leak has revealed the possible color options of the Galaxy S21 FE.

Veteran smartphone leaker Evan Blass has released high-quality renders of the Galaxy S21 FE, giving us yet another look at this upcoming affordable flagship. While Evan’s leak doesn’t unearth any new details about design or hardware, it does confirm the phone will come in at least four colors: black, olive green, purple and white. Evan’s renders are in line with a leak from Ross Young earlier in May, which also mentioned the Galaxy S21 FE being offered in four colors.

As you can see in the renders, the Galaxy S21 FE will feature the same design language as the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus. However, it will likely settle for a plastic back instead of glass, as revealed by OnLeaks in a leak dating April. The phone is rumored to sport a 6.4-inch display, making it slightly bigger than the standard Galaxy S21.

Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed a launch date for the Galaxy S21 FE. However, a report from Yonhap News last month revealed that the South Korean giant was in talks with multiple carriers for the launch of several new devices, including the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy Z Fold 3. As per the report, the Galaxy S21 FE might hit the shelves as soon as August, which is in line with the leaked product roadmap. The phone is said to start at 700,000 won (~$624).

These were some of the best iPad Pro cases in our opinion for the new 11-inch variant. Note that the dimensions of the 11-inch iPad Pro 2021 haven’t changed from previous years’ models, unlike the 12.9-inch model, so older cases will also work well with the 2021 iPad Pro. If you want to get serious work done, we would highly recommend getting Apple’s Magic Keyboard or if you think it’s too expensive, you can get the Logitech Folio which offers similar functionality. For the best protection, we would suggest going for the Spigen Tough Armor.

Most of the cases we mentioned here should work well with the Apple Pencil or have a dedicated cavity to slot it in since the iPad Pro itself charges the pencil. If you’re getting a third-party keyboard case, the chances are it may not natively support the iPad OS gestures, so that’s something to keep in mind. While a good case may protect your iPad Pro from scratches and occasional drops, you might also consider getting Apple Care+ with your iPad to make sure it’s protected from accidental damages as well.

XDA Basics: How to view your Location History in Google Maps, and How to turn it off

Google stores location data about everywhere you go and the places you visit with its location history option, even when you’re not using Google Maps. Although Google’s Location History is turned off by default, there are quite a few features offered by the company that require the location history to be turned on. So unless you’re privacy-conscious and intentionally keeping the setting off, there’s a significant chance that location history is turned on for your Google account. It’s an account-level setting and Google uses every mobile device on which you have set up that particular account to track you.

If you’re wondering how you can check your location history in Google Maps, the company has made it fairly easy to do so. In this guide, we’ll tell you exactly how you can find your location history on both mobile and desktop.

How to see your location history using Google Maps Timeline on mobile

Google offers a feature called Google Maps Timeline that shows an estimate of the places you’ve visited and routes you’ve taken using the data from your location history.

Here are the instructions to view this data.

  • Launch Google Maps on Android or iOS.
  • Tap on your profile picture next to the search bar.
  • Tap on Your Timeline.
  • Google Maps will now show your timeline (location history). You can tap on the calendar to see your location history for any particular day. You’ll see the route taken by you on that day as well as the length and duration of the journey.
  • You can also select the Places, Cities, and World tabs to view all the places (like hotels, restaurants, airports, and shops), cities, and countries visited by you.

How to see your location history using Google Maps Timeline on desktop

  • Unlike on mobile, you can directly open the Google Maps Timeline on desktop — just head over to Google Maps.
  • On the Timeline page, you’ll see a map filled with dots representing the places visited by you. You can click on these dots to get more details.
  • You can also select a particular day from the date picker on the top left side and Google Maps will show you where you went on that day, along with the route, duration, and length of the trip.
  • At the bottom of the page, you’ll also see a counter highlighting the total number of places visited by you. You can click on it to get the full list.
  • Further, there is a trips section next to it to show the trips taken by you. You can click on More Trips to get the full list.
  • The Timeline page also provides a link to manage your location history settings as well as letting you tweak your Home and Work addresses.

How to turn location history off in Google Maps on mobile

If you’re creeped out about the sheer amount of location data Google is collecting on you, you can turn location history off. It’s fairly straightforward.

  • Open the Google Maps app and tap on your profile picture.
  • Then tap on Settings and navigate to Personal content.
  • On the Personal content settings page, scroll down to “Location history is on” and tap on it.
  • Google will now take you to Activity controls in your Google Account and you can just toggle Location History open.
  • Here, if you don’t want to turn location history off, you have the option to auto-delete your location data older than 3, 18, or 36 months.

How to turn location history off in Google Maps on desktop

  • You can jump directly to the Activity controls page in your Google Account. You may be asked to sign in if you aren’t already logged in.
  • Here, you can either turn location history off or manage the auto-delete options.

So that’s how you can turn off location history in your Google account settings. If you’d rather not turn off the feature entirely, you can also instruct Google to auto-delete your older data, including location history, every 3 months or so.

Fossil confirms its current watches won’t get the new version of Wear OS

At Google I/O 2021, Google detailed its bold plan to rebuild the Wear OS platform in partnership with Samsung. As part of this endeavor, Google and Samsung will combine the best of Wear OS, Fitbit, and Tizen to build a unified platform for smartwatches. But it looks like this major upgrade won’t be coming to the existing Fossil watches.

The biggest Wear OS update in years has arrived: Here’s what it looks like

In a recent interview with CNET, Fossil Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, Greg McKelvey, and senior vice president, Steve Prokup, detailed a new Fossil smartwatch that will launch this fall with the new iteration of Wear OS. Fossil’s Gen 6 smartwatch will be a premium offering and will combine “all of the software benefits that Google’s talking about and launching with the unified platform.” Prokup said the next-gen smartwatch would pack “pretty major hardware upgrades.”

Alongside detailing the upcoming flagship smartwatch, Fossil executives confirmed that the existing Fossil Wear OS-powered smartwatches wouldn’t be upgraded to the new Wear OS platform. That means Fossil Gen 5 series, as well as smartwatches from Fossil’s other brands such as Skagen and Diesel, will not be making a jump to Google’s new Wear OS software. Although Fossil didn’t specify reasons for not upgrading the current smartwatches, it’s likely that the hardware on these smartwatches might not be capable of running or supporting all the new features that the next version of Wear OS will come with.

According to CNET, Fossil aims to focus on a single premium smartwatch for the next wave of Google watches. Fossil executives also hinted that launching budget-friendly options based on the new Wear OS platform won’t be a priority. Instead, the company will eventually discount the pricing of last year’s models.
